As they say one man’s trash is another’s treasure and in this case it is a bunch of machinery donated by a local high school to the lads at a newly formed men’s shed.
The men from The Shed, Harrisdale’s newest community men’s group, picked up the machinery from Southern River College last week, after the school decided it was better to donate it rather than it being stashed away gathering dust.
Head of design and technology and manager of vocational education and training Teresa Stoncius said the machinery and equipment were not being used, with some being past their useful life and others needing some repair.
“The equipment was made available to a number of other men’s sheds locally,” she said. “Harrisdale being new and starting up were very grateful for the opportunity to resurrect the older equipment to use in their new men’s shed.
“We were exceptionally happy to give Harrisdale the opportunity to use the items that we were unable to utilise for our classes.”
Shed president Keith Steicke said the donation has enabled the group to find their feet and begin operating just that little bit quicker.
